EU Eastern Neighbourhood: Economic Potential and Future Development (ENEPO)
Prosjektet analyserer den økonomiske og institusjonelle utviklinga i land i Aust-Europa som ikkje er medlemmar i EU.EU-prosjekt med samarbeidspartnarar i 11 land, koordinert av CASE, Warszawa. Deltakarer Fredrik Wilhelmsson, NUPI/Nationalekonomiska institutionen, Lunds Universitet, tilknytta fram til 1. februar 2009.
ENEPO-prosjektet vil sjå på ulike aspekt ved Den europeiske unionens relasjonar med sine austlege naboar (det såkalla ”eastern neighbourhood”). Primært vil det bli fokusert på økonomiske kjenneteikn ved EUs austlege nabolag, som for eksempel:
Perspektiv og vilkår for å fjerne utviklingskløfta mellom CIS og det utvida EU.
Handelsrelasjonar mellom CIS og EU, inkludert energisektoren.
Kapitalflyt og FDI, investeringsforhold i mottakarland.
Arbeidsmigrasjonens potensielle rolle og sosiale konsekvensar av den, samarbeid på områda rettferd, tryggleik og fridom.
Institusjonell harmonisering av CIS-økonomiar med EU-standardar og EUs påverkingsrolle her.
Prosjektet vil særleg analysere banda mellom dei fire grunnleggande marknadsfridomane, altså fri rørsle av varer, tenester, kapital og menneske, og ulike insentiv som kan fremme økonomisk vekst og institusjonell utvikling i CIS-landa og deira vidare integrasjon med det utvida EU.

This paper uses large-scale model simulation in order to derive theoretical predictions about how international integration affects regional inequality both across and within nations.
- Melchior, Arne (2008). East-West Integration and the Economic Geography of Europe. NUPI-notat: 750. 52 sider. Growth in European regions has a distinct pattern during 1995-2006, with higher growth to the west and east of a longitude passing through Germany and Italy. The paper shows how European integration may explain this pattern.
