As the most important international organization, it is critically important that the UN function effectively and that member states are confident that the resources they commit to it are used as intended. For this reason, accountability is a central theme of on-going debates about UN reform. Against this backdrop, and in light of the importance attached to the issue of accountability in White Paper no. 15, this study reviews the role and effectiveness of UN entities charged with ensuring accountability within the UN.
